Practice Philosophy

Dr. Craner’s philosophy for the practice of Occupational & Environmental Medicine is to address diagnosis, causation, and related issues and concerns through a thorough, objective, yet compassionate evaluation of the problem.  This approach entails:

• Listening carefully and asking relevant questions to obtain a detailed, focused history of the problem
• Conducting an appropriate physical examination and, when indicated, diagnostic and environmental testing (and avoidance of unnecessary testing)
• Review and analysis of environmental/industrial hygiene monitoring data
• Formulating a cogent differential diagnosis, and explaining its rationale 
  
• Analyzing, synthesizing and interpreting all of the available information to arrive at a rational, scientifically-based diagnosis, assessment of causation, diagnostic work-up rationale, treatment recommendations/plan, and prognosis
• Conducting literature and other research when indicated
• Communicating clinical diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and questions to be addressed to the patient (and to other involved parties) in a clear, effective manner, both verbally and in writing.

When providing medical surveillance and consultation services on behalf of an employer, Dr. Craner recognizes his paramount ethical obligation to protect the health and safety of the employees on whose behalf these services are conducted.
